EU: Commission adopts recommendation for negotiating partnership with UK

The European Commission ('the Commission') adopted, on 3 February 2020, a recommendation for a Council of the European Union's decision ('the Recommendation') for the negotiation of a new partnership with the UK. In particular, the Recommendation highlights that, in light of the importance of data flows, the partnership should respect the EU’s personal data protection rules and decision-making process with regards to adequacy decisions. In addition, in the context of digitalisation of trade of goods and services, the partnership should provide for consumer protection online, including protection from unsolicited direct marketing communication.
