Japan: PPC announces investigation of personal information protection ordinances in local government
The Personal Information Protection Commission ('PPC') announced, on 25 March 2020, that it had conducted investigations on the status of personal information protection ordinances in local governments including outsourcing companies ('the Investigation'). In particular, the investigation examined, among other things, the definition and scope of personal information, the collection and management of personal information, data breach reporting, and provisions related to private business operators including disciplinary actions, recommendations, and guidelines.
The investigation was conducted from 27 February 2020 to 23 March 2020.
