Rhineland-Palatinate: LfDI Rheinland-Pfalz launches medical and psychotherapeutic practices data protection initiative

The Rhineland-Palatinate data protection authority ('LfDI Rheinland-Pfalz') launched, on 25 February 2020, its initiative ('the Initiative') with the Rhineland-Palatinate Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians ('KVRLP') to produce assistance materials for implementing data protection in medical and psychotherapeutic practices. In particular, the LfDI Rheinland-Pfalz emphasised that the Initiative was launched after an analysis of the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) ('GDPR'), and that it provides examples for implementing data protection, aiming to make it easier for owners of practices to ensure data protection. In addition, the examples, among other things, help with the preparation of the records of processing activities, internal work specifications, and declarations of consent, as well as release from confidentiality obligations. Moreover, the LfDI Rheinland-Pfalz stated that the Initiative indicates how mandatory data protection requirements can be implemented in everyday practice, and highlighted the importance of protecting patient data.
