Russia: Tagansky District Court of Moscow fines Twitter RUB 4M for data protection violations

The Tagansky District Court of Moscow ('the Court') announced, on 13 February 2020, that it had fined Twitter, Inc. RUB 4 million (approx. €58,000), for violations in the field of data protection. In particular, the Court found that Twitter had violated Article 13.11(8) of the Code of Adminstrative Offences of the Russian Federation, which, among other things, imposes the requirement to record, organise, and store the personal data of Russian citizens in databases located in the Russian Federation. Finally, the Court noted that the decisions may be appealed within ten days of receipt.
