Switzerland: Federal Council publishes second activity report for AB-ND

The Federal Council of Switzerland ('the Council') published, on 31 March 2020, the second annual activity report ('the Report') of the Independent Surveillance Authority for Intelligence-related Activities ('AB-ND'). In particular, the Report highlights the potential for improving the processing of personal data by the Federal Intelligence Service ('FIS'). Specifically, the Report outlines that the possible improvement of the FIS's organisation and procedures, considering that the FIS had, for example, sometimes conserved data for longer than necessary and written reports that were non-exhaustive. Furthermore, the Report notes that the FIS must be able to explain, in a transparent way, which personal data has been collected and processed in its databases, and the purposes of the same.

You can read the press release, only available in German here, in French here, and in Italian here, and download the Report, only available in German here, in French here, and in Italian here.
