USA: FBI issues advice on teleconference hijackings

The Federal Bureau of Investigation ('FBI') issued, on 30 March 2020, advice on teleconferencing hijackings ('the Advice'). In particular, the Advice follows recent reports of video-teleconferencing ('VTC') hijacking, also known as 'Zoom-bombing', which are emerging nationwide. In addition, the Advice states that the FBI has received multiple reports of conferences being disrupted by pornographic and/or hate images and threatening language. Moreover, the Advice suggests measure for making VTC meetings and online classes safer, including making the meeting or classroom private either by password or by controlling the admittance of guests, sharing the VTC link directly to specific people and ensuring that the organisation's telework policy or guide addresses requirements for physical and information security.
