Berlin: House of Representatives elects new Commissioner for Data Protection 

The Berlin data protection authority ('the Berlin Commissioner') announced, on 6 October 2022, that the Berlin House of Representatives has elected Meike Kamp as the new Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information. In particular, the Berlin Commissioner stated that Kamp, who is a lawyer specialising in data protection and freedom of the media and information, will succeed Maja Smoltczyk, whose term of office had ended at the end of October 2021.

UPDATE (16 November 2022)

New Berlin Commissioner appointed

The Berlin Commissioner announced, on 15 November 2022, that the President of the Berlin House of Representatives, Dennis Buchner, appointed Meike Kamp as the new Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information. In particular, the Berlin Commissioner stated that Kamp had already been elected by a large majority on 6 October 2022 by the Berlin House of Representatives, and that they will now take over the role with immediate effect.
