British Columbia: OIPC publishes 2023-24 Annual Report and Service Plan

On May 2, 2024, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (OIPC) published its 2023-24 Annual Report and Service Plan.

In particular, the OIPC outlined that during the reporting period, the OIPC:

  • received 213 privacy breach reports under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and 198 under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), 114 of which were due to a cyber attack;
  • received 361 privacy complaints and 417 access complaints;
  • received 668 requests for review of decisions to withhold information and 265 deemed refusal; and
  • received 46 privacy impact assessments.
