Canada: CCCS publishes alert for health organisations

The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security ('CCCS') released, on 20 March 2020, an alert ('the Alert') intended for IT professionals and managers of health organisations in light of COVID-19 ('Coronavirus'). In particular, the CCCS highlighted that Coronavirus presents an elevated level of risk to the cybersecurity of Canadian health organisations with threat actors attempting to steal intellectual property and sensitive data or attempting to extract ransom payments. In addition, the Alert provides some ways to protect organisations from these threats, including increased awareness of ongoing phishing activities related to Coronavirus, ensuring appropriate security policies are administered, monitoring of logs for malicious activity, and reviewing recently published alerts and advisories from the CCCS outlining vulnerabilities. Moreover, the Alert encourages health organisations that do not have robust cyber defence capabilities to consider consulting with private vendors.
