Denmark: Datatilsynet establishes regulatory sandbox for AI
On March 5, 2024, the Danish data protection authority (Datatilsynet) announced that it had established a regulatory sandbox for artificial intelligence (AI). The sandbox aims to provide companies and authorities with:
free access to relevant expertise and guidance on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR);
increased confidence in the project, product, or service;
a better understanding of regulatory requirements, expectations, and the impact of regulations on businesses;
a strengthened perception of the company or authority as responsible and proactive in the approach to the ethical and responsible use of AI; and
the opportunity to inform about and contribute to future guidance efforts from the Datatilsynet and the Digital Agency.
According to the Datatilsynet, the length of the sandbox processes is flexible, depending on the scope and complexity of a specific project, with the expected length being between three to six months. Furthermore, the Datatilsynet mentioned that in the last stages of the process, a report will be written with the participating organization based on the results.
