EU: EDPS publishes Annual Report 2023
On April 9, 2024, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) announced the publication of its Annual Report 2023.
In particular, the report highlighted that during the reporting period, the EDPS:
- issued 15 supervisory opinions on issues including the envisaged processing of biometric data, the use of social media for various purposes, and the controller-processor relationships;
- carried out nine audits, including an audit of the European Personal Selection Office (EPSO) and the European Investment Bank (EIB);
- supervised the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (ASFJ) including Europol, Eurojust, European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO), and Frontex;
- issued 116 legislative consultations, with the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), including advising the EU's co-legislators on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital Euro and financial and payment services; and
- dealt with 36 cases of international cooperation.
