EU: European Parliament publishes analysis of newly proposed rules to strengthen GDPR enforcement in cross-border cases

On April 8, 2024, the European Parliament published a briefing titled 'An analysis of the newly proposed rules to strengthen GDPR enforcement in cross-border cases.' In this briefing, the European Parliament highlights a number of shortcomings, arguing that the European Commission's proposal may slow down cross-border enforcement and deepen discords between supervisory authorities. The European Parliament argues that this may be done by introducing additional procedural steps and ambiguous terms, and by weakening the role of the supervisory authorities concerned and that of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB).
