Hong Kong: PCPD publishes article on use of smartphones and social media in the legal sector

On April 10, 2024, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) announced that its Commissioner published an article titled 'Smart Use of Smartphones and Social Media Starts Today' in the Hong Kong Lawyer Journal.

In particular, the article discusses the use and benefits of smartphones and social media platforms in the legal sector and also addresses the underlying personal data privacy risks such as unauthorized access to clients' confidential information, reputational damage, and even potential legal liabilities.

Furthermore, the Commissioner advised the readers to refer to the PCPD's information leaflets and reports to help users minimize their personal data privacy risks when using smartphones and navigating social media platforms.
