Iowa: Senators introduce whistleblower fund improvement bill to bolster the CFTC whistleblowing program

On July 26, 2023, Senators Chuck Grassley and Maggie Hassan, along with Representative Zach Nunn, introduced the CFTC Whistleblower Fund Improvement Act 2023 to bolster the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) whistleblowing program. Grassley, Hassan, and Nunn noted that the bill would:

  • make the CFTC Fund Management Act permanent;
  • ensure that the CFTC whistleblower program will function as intended and accommodate growing engagement; and
  • increase the Consumer Protection Fund cap from $100 million to $300 million.

According to Grassley, the bill would "promote accountability by making a stopgap fix permanent and strengthening the law that established it in the first place and at zero cost to the taxpayer."
