Montana: AG launches enquiry into Alphabet and Google's AI system over alleged data inaccuracy
On February 28, 2024, the Montana Attorney General (AG) announced that they had written to Alphabet, Inc. (Alphabet) and Google LLC (Google) inquiring into the company's artificial intelligence (AI) system 'Gemini' over concerns that the system may violate Montana law by providing inaccurate information to users.
In the letter, the AG alleges that Gemini provides inaccurate information and may discriminate based on race or other protected characteristics in violation of the Montana Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Act (UTPCPA), and the Montana Human Rights Act (MHRA). The AG explained that Alphabet and Google have until March 29, 2024, to respond to the AG's questions regarding the program's alleged biases.
