Nigeria: Data Protection Bill passes Federal Council

OneTrust DataGuidance Research confirmed, on 27 January 2023, with Olaymika Phillips and Wonuola Abioye Partner and Senior Associate at Olaniwun Ajayi LP, that the Data Protection Bill has passed the Federal Council. In particular, Phillips and Abioye highlight that "the Bill has to go through review and reading by the legislative arm of government, the National Assembly, before its passage, after which it has to be signed by the President giving assent for it to become law. It should be noted that this process can take some time before a bill is passed into law".
