The Nigerian House of Representatives announced on Twitter, on May 24, 2023, that the Nigerian Data Protection Bill, 2023 (Senate Bill 1114) had passed its third reading following its passage in the Nigerian Senate. The bill outlines requirements for data controllers including breach notification, the conducting of Data Protection Impact Assessments, the appointment of a data protection officer, and data subject rights, including the right to object, withdraw consent, data portability, and the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing of personal data.
