Portugal: CNCS publishes 2022 cybersecurity report
On December 28, 2023, the National Cyber Security Centre (CNCS) published a report on cybersecurity in Portugal in 2022, focusing on the human component of cybersecurity.
What are the main findings of the CNCS's report?
The CNCS's report findings outlined that:
- even though most organizations in the country used safe passwords, less than a third used multiple authentication factors;
- regarding the private sector, most cybersecurity activities were carried out by external suppliers;
- there was an increase in initiatives to raise awareness about cybersecurity aimed at children and young people;
- the most frequent theme regarding awareness-raising initiatives was cyber-hygiene, although data protection was also included; and
- the number of companies raising awareness among their employees about cybersecurity also increased.
The report also noted that the most common cybersecurity threats (ransomware, phishing, online scams, and social engineering, among others) can be avoided by adjusting the way people and organizations behave online.
