Taiwan: MOHW and Quanta Computer sign MoU on smart health insurance
The Ministry of Health and Welfare ('MOHW') announced, on 24 March 2020, that the Central Health Insurance Agency ('HIA') of MOHW had signed a memorandum of understanding ('MoU') with Quanta Computer Inc. on developing smart health insurance using artificial intelligence ('AI') and Big Data. In particular, MOHW noted that Taiwan's National Health Insurance has accumulated 850 million structured medical records each year, and that currently 1.6 billion records have been de-identified.
Furthermore, MOHW stated that Quantam Computer had customised its AI medical cloud computing integration platform for the HIA to allow researchers to perform tasks such as data engineering, data analysis, and machine learning. Moreover, based on Taiwan's medical system and comprehensive large-scale database of health insurance, MOHW outlined that the MoU aims to facilitate the development of smart medical technology in Taiwan, develop highly efficient strategies, and introduce AI technology into the management of Big Data applications in health insurance.
