USA: FCC votes to Restore Net Neutrality
On April 25, 2024, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that the FCC voted to restore Net Neutrality at the FCC April Open Meeting. In particular, the FCC highlighted that the vote provides it with the authority to provide effective oversight over broadband service providers. Namely, the FCC noted it now has tools to:
- prohibit internet service providers from blocking, throttling, or engaging in paid prioritization of lawful content;
- revoke the authorizations of foreign-owned entities who pose a threat to national security to operate broadband networks in the US; and
- monitor internet service outages.
