Regulator: The Mississippi Attorney General ('AG')

Summary: Mississippi does not have a comprehensive privacy statute, however, the State recognises all four torts of invasion of privacy (Candebat v. Flanagan, 487 So. 2d 207 (1986)). In addition, according to §75-24-29 of the Mississippi Code Annotated, a person who conducts business in Mississippi must notify a personal data breach to affected individuals whilst, under the Insurance Data Security Law, there is a requirement for licensees to notify cybersecurity events to the Mississippi Insurance Commissioner. Furthermore, Mississippi statutes prohibit identity theft and computer fraud and also protect financial and health information.
