Florida: Bill for online protection of minors approved by Senate and sent to Governor
On February 23, 2024, House Bill 1 introducing an act relating to social media use for minors was presented to the Governor, after being amended and approved in the Senate and House of Representatives on February 22, 2024. The Governor has until March 1, 2024, to act on the bill.
The bill was amended to, among other things:
- include anonymous age verification methods;
- add the obligation to terminate accounts that the social media platform has reasons to believe are held by a user younger than 16 years of age; and
- remove the obligation to provide a disclaimer on the potential harm that the application might cause to users' mental health.
