Germany: BMI announces publication of draft bill for data protection cockpit regulation

On April 3, 2024, the Federal Ministry of Interior, Building, and Community (BMI) announced the publication of the bill for an ordinance designating the public body for the establishment and operation of the data protection cockpit pursuant to Section 10(5) of the Online Access Act (Data Protection Cockpit Regulation) (DSC).

In particular, the BMI stated that the DSC is intended as an additional transparency for the public bodies' use of citizens' data and a constitutional compensation for the introduction of a cross-register identification number (IDNr). More specifically, Section 10 of the Online Access Act provides for DSC to be set up that enable a simple, transparent, and timely overview of data transfers between public authorities using ID numbers.

You can read the press release here and the bill here, both only available in German.
