Jersey: JOIC publishes 2021 activity report

The Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner ('JOIC') announced, on 16 May 2022, that the Jersey Data Protection Authority had published its 2021 activity report. In particular, the report highlights, among other things, that the Data Protection Authority, in the course of 2021, handled 90 complaints and 232 self-reported data breaches ('SRDBs'). Notably, the report outlines that, on the one hand, a culture of compliance and high level of reporting were observed within the finance and professional services sectors. On the other hand, the report states that public authorities, while amounting only to 1.6% of the data protection registrations, represent 29% of the annual complaints and 22% of the annual SRDBs handled by the JDPA.
