The National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data ('INAI') published, on 9 January 2022, a summary of the work it carried out in 2021. In particular, the INAI outlined that it had imposed over MXN 90 million (approx. €3,877,709) in fines against individuals who misused personal data, with the most sanctioned sectors being the financial and insurance sector, information and mass media, and health and social assistance. Furthermore, the INAI noted that it received 1,930 complaints against individuals and legal entities within the private sector, and 83 within the public sector. Furthermore, the INAI highlighted that the most frequent violations resulting in sanctions were the collection or transfer of personal data without consent.
