On December 7, 2023, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Nova Scotia (OIPC) announced that it had initiated an investigation into the cybersecurity breach of the MOVEit file transfer service, as announced by the Nova Scotia Government on June 4, 2023. The service is used by numerous Nova Scotia Government and healthcare agencies.

In particular, the OIPC explained that the investigation will scrutinize the security and information practices of the Nova Scotia Government, Nova Scotia Health, and IWK Health, specifically their responses to the breach.

Furthermore, the OIPC stated that it had received 110 privacy complaints from individuals impacted by the breach, which will be addressed during the investigation.
