Saxony: SächsDSB presents its 2023 data protection activity report

On April 24, 2024, the Saxon data protection authority (SächsDSB) announced that it presented its 2023 data protection activity report to the President of the State Parliament. In particular, SächsDSB outlined that, during the reporting period, it:

  • received 1,160 complaints, almost 10% more than in 2022;
  • was notified of 950 data breaches (around 150 more than in 2022) - most concerning incorrect dispatch and the loss of postal documents, open email distribution list, loss of data storage media due to burglary or theft, and the access of personal data through cybercrime;
  • initiated, in coordination with other data protection authorities, proceedings against OpenAI LLC; and
  • addressed several topics, including background checks of people for the European Football Championship, employee data protection when presenting extended certificates of good conduct, excessive data collection during school entrance examinations, and recording telephone conversations by a social welfare authority.
