Uruguay: URCDP announces resolution clarifying DPO appointment
The Uruguayan data protection authority ('URCDP'), announced, on 29 May 2020, that the Executive Board of the URCDP approved, on 19 May 2020, Resolution No. 32/020 ('the Resolution') which provides clarification on the requirements for the appointment of a data protection officer ('DPO'). In particular, the Resolution highlights that those appointing a DPO must have regard for the DPO's knowledge of both human rights and data protection law. Moreover, the Resolution notes the need for DPOs to have accreditation through activities or courses provided by the URCDP, knowledge or experience within their business areas, and have knowledge of information security tools.
