Japan: METI establish AI Safety Institute
On February 14, 2024, the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) established the AI Safety Institute. The AI Safety Institute will be established within the Information-Technology Promotion Agency (IPA).
What work will the AI Safety Institute carry out?
According to METI, the AI Safety Institute will be tasked with carrying out investigations related to evaluating the safety of artificial intelligence (AI) and standards, considering safety assessment implementation methods, and work related to international collaboration with related organizations in other countries, such as the AI Safety Institutes in the UK and the US.
