New Jersey: Bill on minors' data privacy reported out of Committee with amendments and read for the second time

On June 15, 2023, Assembly Bill 4919 for An act concerning social media privacy and data management for children, establishing the New Jersey Children's Data Protection Commission was reported out of the State Assembly Science, Innovation and Technology Committee with amendments, and read for the second time. In particular, the bill requires social media platforms that provide an online service, product, or feature, likely to be accessed by children, to take certain actions before any new online service, product, or feature is offered to users, and provides that social media platforms must complete a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA). Notably, the bill details actions that may not be taken by social media platforms.

You can read the bill here and track its progress here.
