Serbia: Poverenik announces that National Assembly considers Poverenik's report

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection ('the Poverenik') announced, on 24 February 2023, that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia considered the Report on the work of the Poverenik for 2021 during its Second Extraordinary Session in the Thirteenth Legislature. In particular, the Poverenik emphasised the importance of the National Assembly's consideration of the Poverenik's annual reports and other independent bodies. Additionally, the Poverenik expressed satisfaction that matters related to the right to access information of public importance and personal data protection are progressing in the right direction from year to year.

However, the Poverenik indicated the need for amendments to the Law on Protection of Personal Data 2018 (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, No. 87/2018 to ensure a more effective realisation of the right to data protection.
