On February 22, 2024, the Swedish data protection authority (IMY) published its 2023 annual report. In particular, the IMY highlighted that in 2023 it initiated 210 supervisory cases, including 39 cross-border cases, and concluded 173. According to the report, in 2023, 11 supervisory cases resulted in penalties, and the IMY imposed fines amounting to a total of SEK 120.4 million (approx. $11.6 million). Furthermore, the IMY outlined that it answered inquiries relating to camera surveillance, debt collection, and credit information activities.
Lastly, the IMY mentioned that it completed two projects as part of the regulatory sandbox in 2023, one on federated machine learning of AI in healthcare and another on the use of sensors as an alternative to camera surveillance to measure the safety of public spaces.
