UAE: TDRA launches Digital Verification Platform in stride towards developing digital services

The UAE's Telecoms and Digital Government Regulatory Authority ('TDRA') announced, on 18 January 2022, that it had launched the 'Digital Verification Platform', a platform based on blockchain technology, that allows government and private entities to verify the authenticity of digital documents. In particular, the TDRA noted that the platform, which is a result of cooperation between government agencies, acts as a shared, real-time, and encrypted digital record to process and record various documents, among other things, in an effort to regulate the process of trusting digital data and documents, verifying their credibility through digital auditing, and sharing data and documents, all while maintaining their privacy.

Furthermore, the TDRA specified that the platform also allows converting customers' documents into reliable digital documents with their privacy intact and the highest levels of information security in place. Notably, the Director General of the TDRA highlighted that the platform launch is in line with the enactment of the Electronic Transactions and Trust Services Law promulgated by Federal Decree-Law No. 46 of 2021, in November 2021, and aims to develop digital services and service channels and to maintain the security of customers. Additionally, the TDRA noted that the platform launch also forms part of the UAE digital government roadmap 2021-2025 to achieve 100% digital government services.
